Orthodontics: How to Have a Positive Relationship with Your Braces

Posted .

Are you tired of hearing all of the horror stories involved with braces? Yeah, we are too. That is why our Jacobsen & Maleeh Orthodontics team is here to tell you how to have a positive relationship with your braces in Victorville, California.

There are many things you can do to ensure a positive and successful orthodontic experience, and those things are:

-Floss: Flossing is the best way to prevent gum disease and other dental issues, but sometimes flossing is tough when you have braces. So, to make flossing easier, talk to your orthodontic team about floss threaders. Use these threaders and make sure to floss at least once a day.

-Avoid eating sticky or hard foods: It’s tough to give up your favorite candies, like toffee, caramel, gum and other sticky treats, but if you do, your braces will thank you. Eating these foods could severely damage and break your brackets and wires, so it’s best to avoid eating them altogether.

-Chew with your back teeth: If you use your front teeth to bite into foods, like apples and hamburgers, there is a high chance that your front brackets and wires will break as you bite. So, it’s best to cut hard-to-eat foods into small pieces and pop them into the back of your mouth, using the back teeth to chew.

-Wear rubber bands and headgear: If your treatment requires the use of rubber bands, headgear, or other appliances, it’s recommended to wear them at the recommended times. If you don’t, your treatment time could be increased by months.
